Wow, them sparkplugs ain't cheap!

I about had a heart attack when the counter person told me that my replacement NGK PFR6B11 plugs will cost me $15/each After I picked myself up off the floor, I politely told her no thanks and came home to jump on the web for a better price!

The best price I found using Froogle was for $10.49/each and I'd have to buy two packs of 4/each (eight total). If anyone else has a site for competitive price on these plugs, let me know.

edit: at how many miles should we be changing these plugs? I'm referring to a daily driver, not a speed racer! Mine are 15k miles old if memory serves.

Thanks.

Did you think owning an SVX would be cheap?

I just ordered mine from sparkplugs.com . worked out for me pretty well. I think the end price after shipping and all is about 12-13$ a plug... good thing you only have to do them once every 100k miles

Seeing as how my car only has 104,000 miles on it, I'll have to take a closer look at the condition of these plugs. They may be less than 15k miles old.

Put your wallet back into your pocket. The prevailing wisdom on plug changes seems to range from 60,000 to 100,000 miles. Not sure, but I believe the warranty service booklet (for my '92, anyway) specifies the former.

60k is the recommended interval, but I can tell you from experience the plugs will easily exceed that.

Your plugs should last more than 15K. If they are already fouled then there are some other issues that need to be adressed. I bought mine from Langston Seemed like a better deal than going through the dealer. Good luck.

Some people reported that their original plugs at 130k+ miles still looked perfect.

Thanks guys, I put the plugs back in. Putting in old plugs back in the engine goes against every bone in my body. However, spending money on expensive sparkplugs before they're worn/fouled/etc is unjustifiable! The only reason the plugs came out was becuase I'm in the middle changing out the valve cover gaskets and rubber washers and I just wanted to take a peek!

Have a good weekend.

My only other suggestion would be if you pull the plugs to have a look, you might as well go ahead and see that they're gapped to spec before reinstalling them.

yet another reason why copper is better. You don't really want to reuse plugs you have removed. The crushwasher won't seal as tightly as before.

That's a good point about the crushwasher. However, they're all back in after I checked the gaps on three of them as a sample. I try to stick to OEM tune up suggestions so I won't be changing to copper plugs for this vehicle. If the engineers in Suabru designed around these mighty expensive platinum plugs, then that's what the engine will get.

Now, on to fix other things....seat belt retraction, rear squirter, front sway bar bushings, etc..

When it comes time to put in new plugs look a Bosch Platinum +4's. I have been running some for 30K miles. I put a set in a 97 Silverado 5.7L, huge improvement in performance. I paid between $5 & $6 per plug, Bosch gaurantees your satisfaction or money back.

2d on the +4's, with same results.
88 & 89 Cherokee, 95 & 96 SVX, 93 Grand Cherokee, 01 PT Cruiser, etc. . . They are good for a 100k miles.
