OK, let me elaborate...

Only eight that are lucas certified and of the higher quality DLP, and coupled with a full THX outfit... but hey, who woulda thought it would go that far.

heh heh

Got one of those DLP theaters right here in Plano... lucky me.

I've seen some digital movies there before, looks pretty good. Still need to see Star Wars though...

Digital movie viewing

Hi everyone, I read an interview with George Lucas in Sound and Vision magazine. He says that if you don't see a movie shown in the film format in the first couple of showings you should just forget it. After the first few showings you will have scratches and holes etc. Plus the film likely has broken and been spliced so you lose part of the film. The projectors that are used in theaters use three chips. One for each color. The rear projection "TV"s sold for home use have a single DLP chip and a rotating color wheel. The mirrors click on and off when the right color cell is in position to make that image from that pixel on that tiny piece of mirror showing on the rear projection screen. Yah that sounds like it would work. Ain't technology grand. Take care, BOBB

Hmm... Two digital theaters in Alabama, and not one in Georgia. Figures. Hell, at least we've got Imax. Matrix Revolutions was so much better on an 80ft tall screen...

i don't get it - we have several Google-plexes around here, why not in one of those?

Valley view is 10 miles south of downtown Cleveland.
I live about a stones throw from the theater.......and it's huge!!!!!!!!

Of course he would say that - he's pushing this digital theatre format.

I honestly don't think it's as bad as he makes it out to be. Films don't break all that often (when was the last time the film broke while you were watching a flick?) and the audio is digital these days anyway.

I'm not saying that the new digital format isn't better. I'm sure it is. But film being worthless after the first couple showings? Riiight...

Film

Hi Nick, I think you are right about seeing a film. However things have to get pretty bad after a while as they never replace the film over the first run of it or for that matter ever. When films were first released on DVD they had just gone down to the vault and dragged out a print and let it rip. Now they have to get the original negative, clean it up in the computers frame by frame. Compensate for the fading of the dyes and in some cases recut the film. The thing with digital projection is that every showing is the first showing. It can't get better than that. Take care, BOBB

Quoted for truth...

and I had a film break on me in the last 6 months... and I HATE, the holes, and streaking that develops.
