The first set shows the Chevy Venture, and that thing is specifically designed to kill the front occupants. In a frontal collision the floor buckles and tips the seats forward.

But all the models you showed are older, aren't they? As far as I can tell, American car companies greatly increased the safety of their cars in the past five or six years.

The lincon under the BMW 5 series looks new, I assume the title is correct, right click it and go to properties. After seing a saturn that was rear ended where the back seat was folded flat against the front seats and the trunk was only 1/2 colapsed I wouldn't touch one of those, I prefer cars that have a track record of safty 20-30+ years long, they've been practicing long enough to figure it out. I would agree that in very recent years the americans have been taking huge strides forward, but I still prefer Toyota, Subaru, BMW, Mercedes, (Volvo). I once did a search on "fatal car" in a local paper and was terified to read it, there were enough to get a general idea, and almost all the fatalities were in small or cheap cars.

After all the pics of completely destroyed SVXs that have been posted on this site, I don't have to say anything.

You can be killed in any car, regardless of what the government tells you.

You want me to search and pull up pics and reports of dangerous subarus?

As much as I hate to spend time on these debates...I couldn't resist shoving your own foot in your mouth...enjoy.

http://www.crashtest.com/subaru/ie.htm

According to that site, the only safe impreza is the 02 or newer models, and even those just got an OK rating. Obviously I won't harp on the DL/GL, being ancient cars.

That's just the first site I found...i'll move on.

http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/saf...e.html#Impreza

This site was quite nice to your beloved car maker...however it does show that the Impreza seems to have problems with the IIHS tests, which i'm sure is what keeps it's overall scores out of the green.

http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_rat...ead_subaru.htm

Here's a good one...shows how the new models really are...they fair acceptably up front, but need work in the rear. Plus, if you scroll down on that page, it shows that before 2002, just about everything Subaru was anything but safe. Geez there's only one "good" rating on that entire chart!

And honestly, I expected Subaru to do no worse than GM overall...however according to several sites, they did. Might I remind you that as of 2004, all new GM cars have earned at least 4 star overall ratings, most have 5. Considering how many vehicles GM has, thats one hell of an accomplishment.
