My guess was a Ford...and his locker confirms it!

Can't beat that good ol' Blue Oval build quality...

P.S. On the bright side, you can probably pick up a new door handle from a junkyard for under $5, as Ford's are so common...

I've always been against spending more on repairs then a vehicle is worth

Anybody who knows their trucks would know by reading about the problem that it's a Ford. Bad Alternator or battery would be GM, blown head gasket would be Chrysler, anything else would be Ford. Recurring random unlocateable problems would be Toyata or Nissan.

If that's the way you really felt, you wouldn't be driving a Subaru.

Careful there mister, I've experienced quite a few cars and while GM builds the best pony car their trucks were a pos untill the '99 redisign, that's why I bought a ford, only the CTD dodge could come close in the early '90s

I'm assuming that the picture you posted is what you consider a "real truck". That's an Isuzu isn't it? I hope i'm wrong, because if that is an Isuzu, then your "real truck" has a GM motor.

the 90-99.5 GM Trucks were just as good, and in some cases better than the 99.5+ trucks. My dad traded in his 1995 Yukon just this spring with 150k...only thing that truck ever needed was an alternator. My friend and his father run a bike business that requires them to travel upwards of 40k per year and they refuse to even consider ford or dodge after what they've been through. His 1996 Tahoe had 240k on it when the tranny finally gave up, so he traded it on a 2001 Silverado Z71, and his dad's 1999 suburban had 195k when he traded it in on a 2003 Silverado Z71. Niether truck required more than an alternator and some oil. My neighbor has been through four Fords in the time my dad had his Yukon. Two for transmissions and one he just wasn't happy with.

If I could afford a new GM truck with an izusu diesel I would own it, but I can't, and even though GM got their mechanicals worked out the interriors were still cheap plastic, even when they redisigned them in the mid 90's, WTF? It can't be that difficult to build a descent interrior, it is where you spend most of your time, and the early part of that generation had chronic problems with their heater controlls... If you noticed I was interested in the Unimog anyway
