I've seen 2 SVXes with glass roofs. They are both aftermarket pieces.

They are fitted to L or LS (non-factory-sunroof) SVXes.

One of the guys on the board here has an aftermarket glass sunroof installed. Can't for the life of me remember who it was now. I saw it at a Reading meet, two meets past, and it was pretty sweet. Came with a special headliner and looked different from stock but had a factory look none the less. It opened to the outside just like factory except that it stayed flatter to the roof and opened much farther than Subaru's narrow excuse for a sunroof. Even had a shade panel that pulled out to cut down on unwanted light (heat) when not wanted. I thought it was much nicer than the factory sunroof.

Ditto!

Should we take a collection and do this as a group?

I searched for "roof" in the forums on nasioc.com and rs25.com; I couldn't find any references to previous-generation (GC8) JDM or european Imprezas with glass sun/moonroof panels.

I used to think I knew which type of panel was a sunroof and which was a moonroof, but after a lot of reading, this is more of a gray area for me now, argh.

I'll post a message to nasioc about it and see what comes up...

Didn't want to lose the thread, and if it works I'm sure it will be a popular mod.

Twould be cool to get a glass panel that can change opacity, like on the new Ferrari 575 Superamerica. From http://www.auto123.com/en/info/news/...py?artid=32710 :

"The panel itself is comprised of electrochromic treated glass framed in carbon fiber. The electrochromic glass panel allows the driver to control the amount of light entering the interior via five separate tint settings from transparent to opaque black. At the touch of a button, the panel can go from light to dark in under a minute."

I need control over the amount of light let in, I have a shaved head after all 8)

Yeh, I shave mine too, but only the bottom end of it.

Since I started to go "light on top", I am constantly aware of direct sunlight overhead.

I like the type of sunroof that has two screens. The one like the roof lining, that blocks all light, and above it, the mesh or perforated one.

These perforated ones can let in just enough light, without burning the head off you. I would say a far cheaper option too, than the electrochromic roof panel on the Ferrari!

you could always tint glass...... also it would be a good idea to have an insulated pannel to pop on or "slide to hide" for cold weather and such.... a glass roof would lose you alot of heat and with climate control it may over work your heater

Heat/Cold??

Now why would that little bit of glass have any more impact on the heating/air system that the already installed acres of glass? Mine causes no problems at all.

i was just considering the heat rising from a roof without insulation i remember in my last car in the winter putting your hand to the sunroof was a noticeable difference, it might be due to the other windoes being verticle, minivans are the same way....lots of glass... but we still have insulated roofs....all that aside, im not a scientist and i could be completely wrong.

also... tinting would be nice to keep heat out in the summer as well...every little bit helps, and if you dont want a sunburn like us pale redheaded folks who dont tan at all...only get crispy....

also, if there is a direct bolt on replacement, i would absolutely get it in a second, please post if anything comes up
