Door locks stopped working
Just been out. Locks operated as normal. Got back to the house, switched off ignition, door locks didn't release. Locked in! Couldn't release by manually forcing the lock button up.
Exited via trunk!! Trunk lock works off the key, but doors don't! Help please. Where is the control unit? Can I disable? Thanks in advance.... |

The SVX Locks seem like the Legacy Locks. The actual manual ones are the ones hooked to the Locks, and theres just an Actuwator that locks them both... So this seems interesting... Unless the Euro Models are different.

Cured it for now.
Managed to open the door by leaving ign on, then pulling up hard on the interior lock button whilst pulling the outside door handle. Taken door locks out from both doors and removed the solenoids - locks back on. Surprisingly easy. Most of my time has been spent waiting for the rain to stop in between removing and replacing items. So now it's a manual locking operation, but at least I can't get locked in again....can I?! |

Is your door lock switch stuck? Maybe a stupid question, but stupid problems often have stupid answers. I saw bunch of mechanics tear their hair out trying to figure out why a power window wouldn't roll down. Twelve hours later, they found the sticky button. (Mechanics, not rocket scientists. Electrical engineering isn't usually a major point of understanding for most automotive shops.)

I once saw Tony climb up a chimney to take a photograph, so exiting via the boot is not that strange!!
Sorry, Tony, it is a smile situation, though. The Tech manual I have is US, and I am not that clued up on immobilisers and locks, but a couple of things occur you might check. First, and you have probably tried this, did you lower the driver's window, and see if the doors would unlock from using the key in the door? Just as a temporary measure? Second, the doors lock on reaching 15 kph as a security feature. The ignition switch-off opens them again. If yours is not opening again, then the relay that does the open/close bit has died in the closed position, or has a bad connection/is not getting the signal. This is assuming it is not alarm or immobiliser related, but is a good place to start. Joe

if the motor and wiring for the door lock actuator is the same for the Euro market as the US, then a potential cause is the failure of a spring-brass conductor/contact inside the motor. After X number of cycles, it has lost it's ability to "spring" into the correct position. This has happened on two different units to me.

Well, I'm pleased that my misfortune has made the world a happier place!!
Tried the window down and key in the door - no luck, hence the more drastic action. The relay sounds like it might be an easy job - sorry, I shouldn't use the word 'easy' when referring to the SVX - - so I'll try that first. So where is it located, he says, knowing he's not going to like the answer!! I've WD40'd everything in sight to do with the door locking - just in case. I saw the 'springiness' thread when I did a search on the locking topic. I'll leave hat as a last resort! Thanks guys. Now all I have to do is solve the engine misfire caused by me cleaning it..... |

Have you opened up the actuator? Ours fill up with water every now and again causing exactly the problem you describe. Phil & Bel. |

Not yet - too busy doing other things!
This looks to be held together by a few small philips screws, if I remember? |

I don't know about a relay, but IIRC the door lock controller is high up behind the glovebox, next to the cruise control unit - very difficult to access.
When the button/key are impossible to move, I think it's because the actuator has stopped half way between open and closed. |
