Exclamation Alert Spyware

For the last few days, I have had annoying pop-ups appearing when I enter this site. I ran Spybot which identified something called VX2 but could not remove it.

After much headscratching, Ad-Aware issued an update today which has cleared it from my pc.

I would recommend all members download it and run it asap as it is a serious security threat. It forwards all details entered (including credit cards) to an unknown source.

ps The download is free.

Thanks..

I had just downloaded the spybot "search and destroy" a couple of weeks ago. I was amazed at how many it found. I wil go and get the update now. Thanks for the "heads-up"

That spyware is getting annoying and intrusive. I use Spybot as well and its great but that does not stop it from getting in, in the first place. Most of the ways this stuff get in is through Internet Explorer. I would also like to suggest to those who wish to try new things to check out Mozilla Firebird. Its a great alt to IE and it works very nicely. Only 6mb too. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/

At present, Spybot can find it but cannot destroy it. There will probably be an update shortly. Ad-Aware seems to be the only one to eliminate it completely.

Unfortunately, that info no longer applies. there is a new version called VX2/? which cannot be removed in this way and is far more aggressive. The pop-ups are very discrete and look like they have come from a website you are browsing. At present, Ad-Aware 6 with full updates seems to be the only way to seek & destroy.

You can get it free from

http://www.webattack.com/get/adaware.shtml

(Make sure you do an online update once installed)
