Hey everyone... i'm new here

I just thought i'de introduce myself to the board... My name is justin, i'm 17, i live in St.Louis mo... My mom bought a 92 SVX new and after we mover it just kind of sat in our driveway ever sive... I't wasn't untill recently that i reallized how neat of a car it was... unfortunately it needs a little bit of TLC. At the moment it wont start but i figure its nothing more serious than the battery being dead and just old gas and old oil... it will turn over but only once or twice. the last time it ran was about three years ago... hopefully after i start putting some money into it i can get it back into shape.

Cool. Good luck.

Just remember this one thing:

You're really young. This car isn't a rocketship, but it CAN get you into trouble pretty easily. That's the most important thing to remember.

SECONDLY, it can get you into trouble in other ways. Rear wheel bearing gone bad? That'll be $450. Front engine seal leaking? About $1000. Need tires? Again, pretty $. Windshield cracked? New ones are $915.

Basically, if you don't BEAT on it, and stab the throttle all the time, it'll be nice back to you.

G'luck!

Thanks for the heads up though... i also know its going to suck finding aftermarket parts for it also.

Here are a few pics of it... you can see the oil on the manifold and that it is pretty dirty... that would have not have been the case if it wasn't for my parents treating it like crap.

Hey I'm 16, and my parents just gave me their SVX once I got my license. I put a lot of stereo equipment in, drove it all summer everywhere, and then about 1 week ago the transmission went. Its a real nice ride and will get you alot of looks at school. Good luck with yours, and I hope to get mine back on the road soon w/ a WRX 5 speed transmission.

Welcome aboard... glad to see a fellow St. Louisan here.

The only advice I can give is that be very aware that this is not a low-maintenance vehicle! Change your oil and tranny fluid religiously and it'll treat you right (except those damned wheel bearings)... don't and it won't.

Can't really give advice about a good shop to take the car to... never found a good one myself. OTOH I did once... but I think the place closed down. I'll check into it...

Hope to see you around

Aftermarket parts?! You found some aftermarket parts? Let me know about them!

Don't bother looking man. There's basically nothing. :|

Hey...if you need some help with parts all SVX Net members get List-20% from Wilkins Subaru. PM me for details or search for the thread that I had initially introduced it on. Should say "Parts Discount."

Thats a very acurate assumption... the thing is like a ball or something being dangled in front of my nose... then when i go to grab it i smash my hands on plexiglass or something.

Good luck

I am now 18, I bought my SVX about 2 months before I turned 17. It was a beautiful 1st owner Claret with only 78k miles when I bought it for $5000. I have since put on just about 10k. I have rebuilt the transmission, put on new tires, replaced both front axels, and replaced a radiator and a radiator fan as well as some small things. I am going to be doing the seal job mentioned below shortly because my water pump is making strange noises. I also have a noise coming from a tire that is either the tire failing or bad alignment. So far about $3000 in repairs, and I baby my car. Hopefully you have some mechanical ability and can do some of the work yourself, otherwise you may find that you can't afford the car. Good luck, hope everything goes well.
