At what point do you consider me an amateur racer? Is it the 5+ even trophies my SVX has won? Or the 3rd place overall season win last year? How about the cash I have won in purse money this year? Or the sponsors I have picked up without having to look for them? Do you need me to post copies of the cancelled checks from Firebird Raceway? Pictures of the track officials handing me trophies in the winner’s circle? I appreciate that everyone here has an opinion, but if you just want to be rude, I suggest you find another sandbox to play in. I don’t like poop in my sandbox.

So how come nobody has called you an idiot and that you can't drive yet?

Considering our cars were only .6 seconds apart, and mine has AWD, and a stupid auto (also heh), I don't think either of our times are out of line.

Good job though. Even though our cars are slow, it wasn't the point. It was FUN!

Dayle, what year is your SVO? What color is it?

I've been thinking of picking up my dad's '85 SVO for a toy/race car. Between the two of us, we've owned 5 SVO's and 3 GT/LX/McLaren ASC convertibles.

I think I'll check about Bristol....

Nomad, your time slip really got me thinking. My best friend and brother both live close to the Bristol dragstrip, and I heard they have lots of bracket racing going on this summer. I just hauled out a recent Car and Driver and they tested the 4-door version of my SVT Focus at 15.9 at 89. If I could just get my shifting spot-on, it might be fun!

Richard, why don't you buy us all VR-4's and we'll stop racing our SVX's.

Focal point

Well, if the showers hold off tomorrow evening, I'll be running the Focus at Bristol Dragway during the Tuesday Night Street Fights.
This should be interesting!

So cool....

I drove down to Bristol Tuesday afternoon, picked up by buddy Barry and went to Bristol Dragway. Only paid $10 to run down the track all evening. It was so neat to drive on the strip I had been to or seen on TV for so many years! (first visit was the first Springnationals in 1966) I made 4 runs before I started to smell the clutch, each one a little better than the last, and at least I didn't redlight. The only match ups were by mutual agreement, so I never got to run anything in my class. I was begining to feel bad that my times were so off from all the test runs the magazines had made, but a guy in a tricked up Probe V6 reminded me that the altitude (1200ft) had a lot to do with it, and cost non-turbo/supercharged cars horsepower and about a second of time compared to sea level. I had completely forgotten about the altitude factor. Plus it was very hot and humid, so I didn't feel too bad for the first time out! Heck, it was cool just to have a number on the windshield and be directed to the staging lanes at one of the great drag strips! Don

PS Pictures are in my locker....
