Wife totaled our Outback Sport

I've got some pics from the accident, just posted them here:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/user.php?huck369|7852

It happened yesterday(9-15-03) at about 4:30pm, she was stopped waiting to cross traffic and a 2000 Ford Ranger didn't see her (she had the turn signal on AND her break lights ) and he hit her at probably the speed limit on that road (55mph) his truck then went up on 2 wheels and hit another truck in the other lane, which knocked him back down on all 3 wheels (front right snapped off upon hitting the Outback Sport ) and came to rest about 200 feet down in an adjacent yard.

It was a 1996 Outback Sport, so I don't think we'll get enough money to get a WRX, so we will probably be looking for a Legacy or Outback, or maybe even a Forester to replace it with...the worst part is, although I have 2 other cars to drive, they both only seat 4, and when all the girls are here there is 5 of us, the OBS was the only car we would all fit in so now we'll have to take 2 cars everywhere we go ....at least I do have a spare car

Will let you guys know what happens.

Sorry to hear of your wife's troubles.

This might be a suitable replacement.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but happy to see that everyone appears to be OK. It looks like the car held up pretty well all things considered. I hope you get a good settlement out of the insurance company and find a nice deal on a replacement.

I would be interested in some parts from that car, or possibly the whole thing, should you choose to buy it back from the insurance company. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Actually, I really want one of those. I see Ferrets for sale here in the US every so often.

Anyway, Huck, sorry about your car. But I'm glad that everybody's okay. Still, I would have made the title of the thread 'Jackass totaled our OBS.' It sounds like your wife is innocent.

Cars can be replaced...well, most of them can.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys
While we were both off for work today we've been looking at some Subies close by went down to Oneida TN, to look at a Legacy Outback I saw on the way to the Dragon Sat., it was a 96 2.2 w/dual overhead cam heads, Auto(prefer 5-speed), cold weather package (block heater & heated seats&Mirrors) rear spoiler, new tires, the upgraded stereo(like the SVX-Tours) Tweeters and all, ran and drove great....all for only $3500 cash .........the downside.......194,000 miles

Also looked at a 95 Legacy L AWD Wagon, 2.2 5-speed Single cam motor, ABS, Cruise PW/PL cold AC , 116,000 miles for $3995, and am leaning towards it at the moment.

Won't really be deciding till we get the settlement figure,...might get more than I expect.

Rufus, I plan on buying it back, as it only has 82?k on it, and will make a good parts car for the 95 Project car I have set back for Sommer, My oldest daughter, who will be 16 in about a year and a half.
But if I get it, let me know what you need, and we might talk.

I guess the name of the thread DOES sound like Carol was at fault , but she definately was not.....we got the reantal that the insurance arranged for us....a Mitsu Galant....the Anti Subaru....the enemy! ow well, at least we'll all fit in it.

Hay Huck, did you mean 2.5L DOHC on the Outback?

Speaking of projects, what ever happend with that JDM motor you were getting.

Glad your family is OK, and at least it was only an OB sport. There all over the place, altho an SVX and an XT is not a good combo for a big family.

The first year Outback's only had the 2.2 in them. The 2.5 was only available in 97.

Uhh... what Nubs said , no really, I didn't realize they made a 2.2 with DOHC, till I looked at that 96 Outback today

And I don't know about where you live, but around here ANY Subaru is a rare sight, I've got the only SVX in my county and there isn't more than 4 or 5 OBSes around, and probably less than 20 Outbacks, a handfull of Legacys and older gen Subies....haven't seen a running BRAT around here for years.

I got the JDM Turbo motor and auto tranny(ended up being out of a JDM Turbo Legacy, not a WRX) I kept the auto tranny (has the extra clutch pack like the SVX tranny) but lower gears, I haven't checked them but they should be the 3.90s(but might be the 4.11s), I kept the tranny as a spare for the Outback Sport, but I sold the motor, as I couldn't afford all the extras it was going to take to put it into the XT6

So if I get a manual Legacy, I might have a under 40k JDM auto tranny for sale , or I might try to find a SVX needing a tranny for cheap and fix it up....who knows....

Yes but they were not DOHC 2.2's?

Was it really a DOHC 2.2? I'v never herd of such a beast in the US.

So the motor you had a picture of was the one you got. I tried to tell you it was from a Legacy. To bad you had to sell it.

Well, I don't know much, but I do know it was a 96 Outback (no hood scoop) and it had EJ2.2 on the block, and had DOHC heads on it.... it was a 2 owner car, but I didn't ask if they had done any engine work to it, seamed to be well maintained, if it wasn't for the high milage, would probably be our next car.

I'm gona have to look that one up now. The milage dosn't scare me much these cars don't were out to bad. There seems to be a place in Penn. that sells hight milage Subarus because Two of my costomers went down there to buy them, they bolth have 200+k miles and are spotless, no oil leaks, and clean tranny fluid.
