Dash Light *SURPRISES*

Finally got around to disassembling the dash (takes longer to find the screws you drop than the job itself) and replacing a few bulbs that were out.

See the attached pic:

The smaller bulbs work great for the "shift tree, RND321" but the warning (dummy) lights need to be the larger bulb pictured. There were no slip-on "color condoms" either, the color was built into the markings themselves.

I had not seen this mentioned before, and maybe it's a 1996~7 thing and I was kind of surprised.

Also, I was curious about a light that is blanked out (seemed to be blanked out at the factory) between the MANU and POWER lights. Anyone ever disassembled the cluster enough to see what it was?

One last thing, again, it may be 1996~7 specific (with OBD II) does the POWER light ever illuminate for 1996~7 SVX'? There is a bulb in the cluster, and it lights with a 9V source on my bench, but I have never seen it light up when driving around.

I've got a 96 and never seen the power light either. I think 95 was the last year for it.

Without actually looking at my dash, I think the blank you're talking about is the ECON light--which I don't think was ever used on US SVXes.

Best source is here:

http://www.stars-gazer.com/~svx/

Go to DIY section. The bulbs you'll need are pictured in my opening post and are available at Radio Shack.

The only thing missing is a reference to 2 mounting screws on the cluster itself. In my '96, I had to remove 6, not 4 mounting screws (See picture # 7 of the link) I had 2 mounting screws at the top of the cluster in addition to the 4 pictured....ALL easy access!
