And pretty fragile, I'd say.

Why didn't you guys just stop your cars, get out, and compare sizes?

Or would that have caused your self esteem to suffer even more?

See, Mike, I consider you the exception to the rule. Yeah, you have a Cavalier, no example of which I would consider worth saving. But it's an older Cavalier and you keep it show-quality.

That's fine, and it says to me that, even though I don't think the car bears any significance whatsoever, you do. That's what makes the world go 'round, and I hope you enjoy both your SVX and vintage Cavalier for many more years. Just don't bother comparing them, beause they're obviously built for two very different markets.

I think Mike's cavalier is pretty cool. I like dang near anything odd ball though, so >shrug<

Anyway, it's just kinda sad when Subie's 30k awd 230hp luxury sports car can't keep up the pace with a freaking cavalier or other econobox.

Sure it can in stock form besides as Mr Pockets says that's only 1 aspect of performance. To compare an SVX which was designed 14 years ago to anything in today's market is unjust. Compare it to a 92 Cav. and then we're talking. In the past 10 years average engine efficiency has gone up over 50%. The highest decade jump since the 1910's when true auto production began to take over from coach built cars.

You can put the SVX in stock form beside a AWD 911 and it'll blow its doors off the 911 in snow. Does that make the SVX a faster car?

So you don't like Cavalier's??? Then we share something in common..... that's a start... I'm not saying that I wouldn't drive one if I were given one... I would drive anything free, I wouldn't be very happy but I'd drive it... Same with a Neon.... I feel the same about both cars... You see why I hate hearing about Neons..... Just want to see if you can see were I am comming from... I'll try to look past all those post about Neons that you wrote in the past... Cool??

My g/f's father has a 95 carrera 4(its AWD), he killed me in snow. it has a far superior AWD system.

Look, I know a LOT about neons. I also know quite a bit about mopar musclecars. My first car was a 1968 Dodge Charger with a 383/hurst 4spd. If a topic is pertaining to headers, I might bring in my experience of the chargers headers. If a topic is about handling, I might bring in my experience in making my neon handle. Comprehende?

- Rob

PS: I don't have either of those cars anymore, just my experiences and knowledge from both of them.

Most standard road cars including the SVX are not truly set up to handle snow. You need narrow tyres of the correct compound, high ground clearance, and a good traction system.

I believe you about the carrera 4. I had a farcical "race" with a couple of kids in a souped up fwd Escort on a snowy motorway couple of years ago. I was driving my Matra Murena[pics in my locker], a mid-engined sports car. Every time, I could walk away from them. Why? Because the rear engine in the Murena transferred the weight to the back driven wheels under acceleration [gentle, torquey] while the fwd Escort took weight off the front driving wheels, and power became irrelevant.

The Porsche would be the same, the rear engine weight would help traction in slippy conditions.

Remember I said in stock form Phil so that means stock tires to! I've driven Carrera 4s in 4 inches of snow and was getting passed by freaking Bimmers! I would never even consider the AWD system on the Carrera 4 as even an equal to that of a Subie simple due to the reliability factor (or lack there of). Properly set up for driving in those conditions sure it'll kill an SVX but how many Porsches actually see snow (aside from you're G-fathers)?

Porsches aren't just poser beach cruisers. they are rigorously tested in Germany in snow conditions and you can even buy factory tire chains. the AWD 959 won the Paris-Dakar rally in its first appearance. not too shabby- i can't really think of a more gruelling test for an AWD system. i drove my 928 in snow, but not in real deep stuff. then again, i wouldn't drive the SVX in real deep stuff, either (it bottoms out).
