SVX Comparison

Many of you know that we have 3 SVXi from different model years.
The model years are 1992, 1994, & 1997. All the SVXi are top of the line models. I have driven all three cars enough to give my impressions of the differences.

1992 LSL w/Touring Package: This is the car with the most raw power. It's acceleration and tightness of handling far exceed the other 2 cars. It has the sportiest feel of the 3 cars.

1994 LSi: This car has been softened a bit. It is not as quick off the line as the '92 but you still feel its power. It's handling is almost up to that of the '92 but it feels more GT like in it's approach.

1997 LSi: This is the most "Cadilac like " of the 3. It is a true turnpike cruiser. It feels the most luxurious and tries to isolate you from the road. I don't mean to imply that it is sloppy. It is a very very good handling car. It does not have the acceleration of the 92 & 94. It does everything in a very controlled manner. It never loses its aplomb. It is the car to take for long trips.

Rosie agrees with this asessment also.

Earl, what are your opinions? you have multiple SVXi.

I prefer 'SVXen' as the plural form of 'SVX.'

Was the aplomb an option on the '97, or was it standard? Can one be fitted to a '92? Is there a TSB on the attachment mechanism that would address losing it and how to prevent its loss? Do you have the part number?

I have 3 model years as well, 92,93, and 94.

The 92 and 93 seem very similar to the amount of power. I can't really tell any difference. That is comparing the 1 - 92 and 2 - 93s I have.

Now for the 94. It is not fair to compare the 94 with the other cars because it has a 5 speed in it. It has the most power off of the line and feels like a true sports car because of the 5 speed. It is fun to run through the gears, and you can feel the power all the way through them.

As for a long trip, I would much rather drive the 92, or 93s because of better gas mileage, and ease to drive.

As for fun, out of all of the SVXen, SVXi, SVXs or SVXes, the 94 with the 5 speed is the one I would choose.

Randy,

A "Plum" is quite different from "Aplomb" . It think a "Plum" was only available on European models. I'm not sure. Check with Joe (SVXtentialist). He has the intercontinental balistic plum option on his SVX.

Aplomb is only available on '97 USA LSi models. It is actually designed in as an integral part of the car. I don't believe that it can be retrofitted to a '92. Especially one that has any modifications such as a Stebro or KC exhaust system; a manual transmission; or drilled & slotted brake rotors.

Besides aplomb, my '97 came equipped directly from the factory with Cache' and Elan. All 3 of these items work in conjunction to increase the car's 'Ambiance'

I retrofitted my '92 with the "Je ne sais quois" option (originally European market only). Being as it's also claret, I wanted the intercontinental ballistic plum option, but Joe got the only surviving kit for that one.

I briefly considered the "NADM eggplant" option, but . . . nah.

I PMed Dan just to see if all was OK. It is. He just had to choose between Reading, or being there for his daughter whose scheduled delivery would have made him a gramps for the second time. As of yesterday, the "tranny" still hadn't dropped.
Let's all wish the family well.

Ron.

Alph,

The Grey Poupon dispenser was not available for SVXi with beige interiors.
Since our '97 Bordeaux Pearl LSi has a beige interior, I had a customized Chivas Regal dispenser installed by a a George Barris protege from Maryland. The Chivas label is burgundy which goes with the Bordeaux Pearl exterior and the color of contents of the bottle compliments the beige interior. I've recently contracted with Waterford Crystal to supply gold tinted crystal "On the Rocks" glasses with the SVX logo etched in the bottom.

I think this is more fitting with the character of the car as opposed to the cow catcher, possum pusher and gun rack options installed on the "Country SVX", located in Kentucky.
