belt specs?

hola amigos..

i've got some noisy belts (PS and AC) and i think they're going to need to be replaced. Can anyone tell me what I'll need to look for when I buy new ones? also, is the replacement procedure listed in the FSM for engine and transmission?

thanks in advance

Adam,

This just my personal opinion from using aftermarket belts on a Legacy and OBS. I am not using them any more. I get the Subaru belts now. IF the engine has a lot of miles you may want to replace the idler pulleys as well. The FSM is good.

I think correct pulley alignment and belt tension has more to do with belt noise than the belts themselves. I've got an aftermarket alternator belt on right now and it isn't making any noise.

The idler pulleys are there to either keep tension on the belt or to route them away from obstructions. They basically just sit and spin and don't drive anything.
