Question External Trans Filter: Input or Output?

Hey folks!!

Making progress here for sure!!

Another need for public opinion:

On installing an external spin-on trans filter, does it go inline between the cooler and the output of the transmission or between the cooler and the input to the transmission?

Reasons for education also appreciated!!!

Still trying to get Holiday Shopping done too!!

Regards to ALL!!

It should definitely be installed on the output line from the tranny.

On the older models there was a mesh in the radiator cooler that could clog with clutch material - and shortly thereafter the tranny would die from poor fluid flow and heat. putting the filter before the cooler prevents the cooler(s) from getting clogged. so Nubs/Mike is correct.

What year did they discontinue that mesh in the stock cooler?

don't know, but it's not on the 97 model year. still most every aftermarket kit shows it before the cooler.
