Steve, you may have more comfort if you switched to a 17 inch wheel. You may even get better handling out of it. Usually a 40 profile tire is for form, not function.

How is less sidewall not for more function? Less sidewall flex = more responsiveness.

why dont racing teams run super low profile tires then?

I haven't ever seen someone at a track day running a 14" wheel. usually it's the of road guys running small wheels with more sidewall.

not saying go as small as possible but race teams usually run around a 40-50 sidewall.

less sidewall flex = tire isnt conforming to the road or spreading out to increase the patch of tire contacting the road.
