Re: Come on IRENE!

Wethersfield, CT. Power went out at 7AM on 8/28. Power came back on at 8PM 8/29. So, 37 hours without power.
It was windy at times but no steady strong wind..

I got bored of it, got in the car at about noon on Sunday and went down to Westbrook.
It was WINDY like crazy down there right on the beach.
Power was still out at waters-edge in Westbrook at 4am today when I left.

Re: Come on IRENE!

As far as I know, my sister is still without power in Ellington. The easter half of the state got hit pretty hard with wind damage. Tell those people it was just a lot of hype. I mean, it wasn't devastating but it still was a hell of a storm. The CT river flooded over its banks and there was a lot of flooding up and down the eastern coast of the US. And there were millions of people without power. The damage in NYC was less than feared but it was still very wise to evacuate because it was a lot closer to being a devastating storm than most people realize.

Re: Come on IRENE!

Act + roll dice = result

Stay put + lazy storm = OK
Evacuate + nasty storm = OK
Evacuate + lazy storm = say "lot of hype"
Stay put + nasty storm = on your roof, begging up supplies from FEMA

...and here we are.

I read somewhere that when Irene hit Wall Street it was downgraded.

Re: Come on IRENE!

Gordon, that is really lousy. I work in Hamden exit 60 off the Merit at AT&T on Putnam Ave corner of Dixwell. We had power there, but the two Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds and three gas stations were all closed on Sunday. 7/11 opened later Sunday afternoon, and the line was out the door and shelfs were almost empty. An unusual sight to say the least. Good luck and hope you get your power back real soon.
