Rebuild

Ok, my engine has a lot of leaks. I would like to hear from someone who has rebuilt their engine and how much it cost them and how hard it was. I want this car to last a long time and thought since I have these leaks that I may go ahead a do a rebuild. Thanks for any info.

Re: Rebuild

I haven't done it but I have priced it out some, an engine reseal kit is your cheapest bet at around 350-400$ to add just pistons and rings add another 600-700$ and connecting rods are around another 400$ or so with bearings. I haven't priced out any head work or crank and main bearing stuff though yet. Hope this helps I used subarugenuineparts.com thats the cheapest I've found parts. Also last I knew ecutune.com had a just broke in 3000mi fully rebuilt short block for like 3-3500 iirc. (All prices are just parts no labor)

Re: Rebuild

If you have no piston slap or rod knock just rock the reseal kit to fix your leaks and that should do you fine as long as your not racing it and its a good chance to do timing belt and water pump if theyre due and to clean up all that old nasty looking aluminum and make things all pretty and add even more "wow" when you pop the hood not to mention adding some extra life insurance for your engine.

Re: Rebuild

+1 for the reseal kit. Maybe have your lash adjusters rebuilt. Look at mizpah engineering. 4 bucks a piece or something like that.

Re: Rebuild

When I got the car, the water pump was out so I had to pump and belt replaced. We havent put 1,000 miles on it since. The car ticks like crazy, sounds like a lifter or something. I would love to be able to rebuild it just to have piece of mind. Like, rings, rods and mains, lifters all gaskets. I just didnt know parts would be that much. Back in the day of my rebuilding chevy small blocks, it was like $200 for rering kit and rods and mains and you were set.
