Pinion gear help

Is there any sort of trick to geting the pinion gear out? I can not get the nut to come off the back side of it... I tried an impact gun, ratchet with a 4 foot extention and that nut is not breaking loose. Is it reverse threads? I did try it both ways, and nothing. Any advice would be apreciated!

Thanks, Bobby

Re: Pinion gear help

Because the front diff that is in the car broke, the ring and pinion are all chewed up... So I'm taking the front diff off and putting on another one...

Re: Pinion gear help

So the front diff?
Did you unstake the nut?

I never had that much trouble?? Just used an impact and spun it right off...

Sorry Bobby.
I thought that you were speaking of the rear diff.
(and I was to go into my spiel about a different way of doing it.)

It is not reverse threads...
Like Dave said, did you unstake it?

If you look closely at the nut,
it has a collar
and it has been dimpled in,
(like an axle nut)
to make it harder to get loose.
