Once again, looks really good... but


You really have to do something about those outside wheel weights!



Any competent shop can dynamic balance your wheels, putting self-adhesive weights on the inner part of the rim, close to the center, along with the rear weights. I have never had a weight on the outside where it would show.


Oops! see what I started? Far better to learn about this now BEFORE you have your wheels powdercoated.

Yeah, I completely forgot to mention that on Friday when I had my tires balanced and rotated. I was too busy waiting to see HOW they would tightened the lug nuts. lol

Excellent idea with the calipers. I'll atempt it next brake job, when I'll put drilled and sloted rotors to go with it.

yeah... that was my intention... for now, my new calipers and rotors sit in my living room waiting for me to install them with new steel brakelines..
ugh... why do I have to be bothered with school and work... I wish I could just tinker with my SVX all the time.

oh, and as John, of course , noticed - the black SVX logo on my calipers looks a little funny because I had Billy make them larger (I should have asked him to make it 3/4 as large and stretch it) and when I placed them on the caliper, part of the letters fall into some grooves on the caliper.. so they appear to be slightly mis-shapen around the bottom of the S and X. Sooo the sticker is fine, it just dips into places and makes it look a little funny.
I still like them a lot... maybe I will order more stickers and fix them.. because now that John has pointed them out.. I'm not sure I can live with myself if I leave them looking like that..

The center caps were filled for me by another member, Mike "nubs" Novosel, on the network.

Basically, he roughed up the outer edges of all of the letters SUBARU with a Dremel tool and filled them in with epoxy. He layered it so that it was higher than the top of the center cap and then sanded it down when it was dry to the original contour. A little body filler putty to fill in any imperfections left after sanding and then a few coats of automotive primer.

When I sent my wheels to Transwheel for powdercoating, they refinished my center caps in matching acrylic lacquer with an acrylic enamal clearcoat. So now I had beautiful silver wheels and matching BLANK center caps.

I also found an kneadable plastic epoxy which adhere well to plastic. It is called QuikPlastik. I uses it to secure the led light batr to the inside of my grille.

You could still rough up the edges of the lerttering and press this stuff into the caps, building it up higher than normal for later sanding (after about an hour)

There is absolutely no cracking or dererioration oround the edges of the letters. I believe roughing up the outlines of the lettering to make them jagged is the key here. The caps were originally done in April, 2002.This photo was taken in August, 2007 (after being on the road for over 5 years.






I may get my wheels redone by Transwheel, but my caps are fine and don't need to be done
