Hey Porter, tell them about that 2.5RS (that's NA for those who don't know) that was stuck to your SVX like glue leaving the turn-out on the Cherohala... what with the synchronized sliding around that first turn and all...

Well, come join us in the spring! We're doing another large scale meet like the one we had in May... well over 100 cars expected with members coming in from all over the US... driving up from Miami, down from Wisconsin, New England, etc etc...
It's also going to be a wedding! Check out http://www.subaruwedding.com if you want details... LOL!!! Rally on, troops! -Porter P.S. Yamarocket speaks truth about his 2.5.... it's a freaking go-kart! We've got to go do some more synchronized drifting together man! Check shorts lights engaged on both of our passengers! |

I'm a bit confused now! Everything I had read about SVX's suggested that their forte is style and general luxury performance. Porter's signature even reads, "fast in the straights, slow in the corners.... for now". Now I read this thread which suggests that SVX's can out perform a WRX on twisty asphault. Is this true? Porter and Templar, have you done any suspension mods to your cars?

Templar has a highly modified Impreza 2.5RS.
I have a mostly stock '94 SVX LSi AWD. And yes, the stock SVX can more than keep up with a WRX in the twisties as long as you are comfortable with EXTREME body roll. The limits of grip are quite high and breakaway is very predictable when using good tires. I was actually on sporty all seasons (Bridgestone Potenza RE950s) and was able to match WRXs who were running very sticky summer tires (Falken Azenis). Kent and I are suspecting that an SVX with a PROPERLY sorted suspension should be able to stomp all over the WRX in terms of ultimate handling balance on asphalt. Properly sorted in our terms involves a true coilover suspension system (FLATT or Aragosta probably), uprated bushings everywhere, adjustable strut top mounts ("camber plates"), and a proper lightweight 17" wheel and tire package. Brakes are also a necessity, we're researching whether Stoptech can adapt their WRX kit to the SVX by changing the center "hat" of the 13.8" rotor to one with the proper backspacing and bolt pattern. |
