Wiper ? (aerodynamics)

I was driving the other day to school and when I hit around 60 my wipers do not like to stay on the windshield. I use rain-x which helps a ton, but does anyone know of maybe an aeordynamic wiper or a wiper with a spoiler that works with our cars at higher speeds?

Re: Wiper ? (aerodynamics)

try the RainX Latitude wipers - they are a "one-piece" plastic wiper you can use all-year, and you can replace the rubber with cheap refills. they have a "fin" that keeps them on the glass at speed. Michelin makes similar ones, but you can't replace the rubber. i tried the Bosch ones, too, but they were noisy.

Re: Wiper ? (aerodynamics)

I personally prefer the OEM blades

Seriously though. the OEM blades look almost like low profile regular trico blades... but they have a tilt to them, working as a built in spoiler.

Only for the true svx collector

Re: Wiper ? (aerodynamics)

I use the Reflex blades with Wet-Tech (Rain-x). They have a metal spoiler on them that works very well (they do lift around 85 MPH, but that's a little unreasonable to ask). They're pricey (around $75 for the pair), but after 2.5 years (including winters) they work as well as the day I bought them.

Re: Wiper ? (aerodynamics)

Thanks for the input. Ouch 75$ for wipers. About how much do the latitude run?

Re: Wiper ? (aerodynamics)

Probably ~15$ a piece.

Walmart has Michelin slim-line ones for just under 13$ a piece...

Seems like a lot for a strip of rubber over a bi-metallic arch spring.

I have the non-frame wipers on the Legacy, and the Miata... and I like them. I want to put some on the SVX along with some new headlight bulbs before winter... but 45$ for wiper blades, and probably half that for a single pair of headlights, let alone for another pair for high-beams, and some yellow fogs...

That stuff starts to add up a bit, for what would seem like the most innocuous auto parts possible...

Re: Wiper ? (aerodynamics)

Not to ignore the good info on wipers - but I never considered 60 mph to be "high-speed".

just for general info in that respect... If you use one of the old style winter blades with a thin rubber sleeve over the old style metal frame (wide sail) on the rear wiper, and turn the wiper on when your doing ~140, the wiper will lift into the up position and stay there untill you get out of the car and pop it back down.

Now, that's high speed.
