Battery Size

I need to get a new battery for my svx. The system at autozone says that it takes a 24 series but under my hood was a 58 series. The only difference being the size and the oem has 60 more cold cranking amps. However it seems that the 24 series may be too tall for my hood to close. They are the same price. I was wondering if maybe the old owner found it didnt fit. Does anyone else know?

Re: Battery Size

*scratches head* I don't have any experience with AutoZone batteries, but my Optima came with an extra base piece that would raise it or let it be mounted lower to fit different cars. Is yours anything like that?

Re: Battery Size

Actually. I dont really have anything holding the battery in place. It was just sitting in the lil space between the headlights and the fuse box. Im sure smthing was supposed to be there mounting the battery in, but the space is fairly tight so i dont see that being too much of a problem

Re: Battery Size

I use an Optima RedTop Group 34 battery (Optima #8002-002) with top terminals only. It has 800 cold cranking amps 800; 1000 cranking amps 1000. The book calls for a Group 24, but as you can see, there is more than enough room.

You don't need to use the height adapter. If you want to, I have a few of them lying around and I couls send you one.

Here is a photo of that same battery in my 1996 Polo, with a custom machined bracket. As you can see, there is plenty of room to spare for adding the Hella Supertone horns.

OEM battery Hold-down parts:
Here are the OEM part numbers for your battery hold down, and locations in the diagram. If you use an Optima battery, which is leakproof, you don't need the battery pan. Otherwise get it to protect your frame.

11. 82122PA000.. Battery Pan.. $17.65
12. 82182AA030.. Battery Holder... $17.2
13. 82161AA041.. Rod Battery (2)... $3.32
14. 902370049.... Nut Flange M6 (2)... $0.10

That story began HERE over 6 years ago, when the baby had only 44,000 miles. Now running better than ever at 123,000 today.
