Re: Please help me... My gauge is lame

Ok so heres where Im at...

I filled the car today, at 213 miles, and it took 10.9 gallons. How much gas did I have left before the light comes on?

And it is almost 100% city driving for me, so I normally get 17ish mpg. Though this fill up it went to 19!

Re: Please help me... My gauge is lame

The tank holds ~18 gallons, so even at 20mpg you still had 120 miles till the light would come on.

Since it is all city driving, you may want to refill closer to 250 than 300, but once you go through a few cycles you'll get used to how far you can go.

Re: Please help me... My gauge is lame

Well, most of us dont drive an SVX with 17k miles now do we

Plus, mine is a 92, along with 4.44, which means worse mileage.

By the way, that brings up a point Ive wondered about. When im going about 65mph, my rpms are sitting at the 3k mark. What is it normally at on a stock SVX? Just wondering how much it hurts mileage with the 4.44...

Re: Please help me... My gauge is lame

I fixed my problem by completely filling my tank and resetting my gas indicator a little above the full mark, and that was over three years ago still works great.A member had posted a how to reset your gas needle some time ago.

So wtf is the deal with it. Its not just now happening, its been like this since I bought the car. Once it goes all the way down like that, it goes back up to 1/4 tank, then back down to that. I dont see a gas light at any time... But Ive seen it come on when I start the car before...

I need to know how much gas I have.... Can anyone help me?

-Dennis

Also, do all SVX's gauges take like 10 minutes to go back up when you fill the tank? In my old focus, the gauge jumps all the way up instantly, and with this car... 10 minutes
My car is doing the same and like someone previously posted the fuel send unit rusts. The fuel light should still work and then you'll know you have 20 miles to get gas.

Re: Please help me... My gauge is lame

I've had luck using Marvel Mystery oil in the gas for this problem.
