Even if it did open in the boiling water, like benebob stated if there is an air pocket on the other side of the t-stat it won't open.

Next time you refill with coolant try this;
Mix up 2 gallons of 50/50 mix into 2 - 1 gallon containers.
Remove the top rad hose from the radiator and add about one gallon into the engine through that hose. If it overflows before you use up the gallon, that's fine, put the hose back on.
Add the rest into the radiator. I think the actual capacity is 1.8 gallons, so you will have some left over.

This gets fluid throughout the system immediately without waiting for it to get through the "jiggle hole". You'll still want to run it with the cap off and add until the air is gone.

Weird, as the Stant I bought from Advance Auto didn't have the jiggle pin I did the "OT mod" and drilled two small holes through the stat. Takes slightly longer to come up to temp now.

Bwhahaha... it worked! I can finally drive her again . All the air pockets finally came out. I repalced the radiator cap with a new one and so far no leaks. The water temp sensor issue i've been having is on and off, but I will be ordering a new one this week.
