All good.

Same here. Never been stuck and the SVX is a tank.
I did have the back slide out once as I was turning left up a snow packed hill and probably gunned it too much. Nosed into a ditch but there was no damage! I could not believe it.

Also don't forget that AWD is always on, where with 4WD, most people don't engage it until they need it, if even then!

Really a true 4x4 system is better. The problem with an AWD like ours is if one of the wheels gets air, it spins while the rest of the wheels sit dead. A real 4x4 woudl always have 25% of the power at each wheel, so you'd truly never get stuck.

At least, that's what my old toyota 4Runner was like.

Actually, we have a limited slip rear diff so we are 3 wheel drive. If one of the fronts goes in the air we are down to 2wd but you should never have the rest of the wheels sitting dead in an svx unless something is broken.

A limited slip is actually better for general driving in snow vs. a true lockup diff in that a lockup would have both wheels spinning the same speed in a turn which could cause you to lose traction. A true lockup is for off roading or getting unstuck.

Amen

With our VTD gearboxes, if we pull the fuse we get pure 50/50, locked.

But it would be bad to drive that way on tarmac.

Last weekend we got some pretty good snow here in Wyoming. We were in the middle of nowhere on some highways, when one of the highways ran out and went into an unmaintained dirt road. It looked like maybe a couple of people had gone through the 6 inches of snow so there were some tracks, but it was still a lot of snow. We started through it, and I was hesitant at first because I was slipping around quite a bit, and we hadn't seen another car in the last 20 minutes so if we got stuck we'd be walking for a while. But, the SVX plowed through it all and never had a problem. I never actually stopped, as I didn't want to lose my momentum, but we drove the dirt road for probably 30 minutes or so before we found paved highway again. Never did see another car either...
