Multiple Car Owners: Car Storage Question

The only thing stopping me from purchasing another car or two is that I dont know where to put them. What I dont want to do is just park them outside, exposed to the elements.

I've got two cars in my garage and one outside under a car cover. For those of you with a bunch of cars who dont just park them outside, where do you store them, and if its some kind of rental, what do you pay? Thanks.

I am lucky enough to have a barn and shop to store most of mine inside. I do have a couple of mine outside with car covers on them.

Actually, you were the guy I was hoping to hear from. Was curious where you put all of your cars. If I cant come to some other alternative, I may have to go the car cover option. Just wish there was some storage place that didnt charge an arm and a leg to park a car. I was actually thinking about adding a lift or two in the garage, and then parking one car under another, but I have a fear that I will run into part of the lift when moving a car, and having the car on the lift fall on the car I'm driving.

Anyway, thanks for the response.

Smile Car Storage

Our 2200 sq. ft. ranch has a 2 car garage as part of the basement. I bumped out 1/2 the back wall and reduced Rosies laundry room to 1/2 its size to make it a 3 car garage with 2 parked in a row. Previously I had taken down a side wall in the garage and rebuilt it as a 12 foot door on casters and installed large hinges on the side so it swings open. Can park 5-6 more and still have room for a shop and workout area and storage. Also installed 2 zone themostatically controlled heat and dehumidfier to create ideal storage, working and playing enviorment. Definitely married the right one 39 years ago!

I started out building a grape arbor, but it grew into a car port with grapes hiding what's inside. on the 4th of July, there were 15 people, a grill, a pic-nic table, my neighbors scooter, a host of building materials and some steel for future fabrications, etc etc. During the winter months, the pic-nic table is leaned against the side and the XT sleeps there.

'covered storage' count, (in town) 6 bays, and a 'grape arbor' with a subi sleeping in it. Planet MRAF has 8 covered areas and still building on.
The neighbor died a couple years ago, so I bought a 4 bay garage that hooks to my back yard. I paid WAY more than the appraisel, but how often does a 4 bay land in your lap? I feel that the 'presence' of the 4 bay, ( in addition to the shops that I built 20 years ago) makes the property worth MUCH more than either would be as 'stand alone' properties. Average 'off street 'parking in this 'hood' is (0), I can harbor 18, with 7 being under roof.

The guy that ownes the biggest storage place here is one of the organizers of the local auto-x. I can introduce you on the 28th if you don't mind driving 120 miles to visit your stored unit(s). He's fair and the place is reasonably secure. ( he also ownes a local VID company and his office is in the same building.) I know of guys that have had stuff in there for 20 years. No problems.

You can always extend your garage rather simply. I had a 2car garage, and 4 cars at one point. I got a concrete slab poured 24'x26' for around 800$. Then i put some 4"x4" in the ground, made a frame out of 2"x4", nailed some 4'x8' sheets of plywood to the top, and shingled it. Took 2 weekends, total cost around $1400 doing the labor myself. If you have the room i would do that. Also you can get tin sheets to put on the roof, and you don't have to shingle it. Would probably be cheaper as well.
