K&N filter and the power light
Since I've installed the shift kit, 16 power light flashes with every start up. I replaced the resistor behind the battery and it went away for awhile. It came back and I lived with it for a few months. Today I replaced my air filter with a K&N filter. Strangely the flashing lights went away. I replaced the original filter to see what happens and got the flashes again. Can someone explain why this is happening? Does that extra length of vacuum hose for the shift kit have something to do with it? Trevor?

Odd that replacing your filter had any effect on it, as the MAF is part of the ECU loop, not the TCU loop... coincidence, maybe? Or maybe you replaced something along with the K&N?
The shift kit is what's causing the Power Light. If you check codes, there'll be a Code 11 (resistor). When the shift kit is engaged, its resistor creates a near-open circuit situation which the TCU reads as a fault. This is what's causing the sharp shifts (and I'm willing to bet you've lost third gear as well). Trevor does indeed have more info on it. But that's why I replaced the resistor with another resistor instead of getting the shift kit. EDIT: Now that I think about it, the shift kit activates via that vacuum hose... is it part of the MAF line? Maybe the extra flow from the K&N is changing the way the shift kit is staying in an "idle" position...? Hrm. I don't know enough about that kit... |

I could also be that it is a vaccume problem and by changing the filter, you bump or move it so that it will leak or not leak. I would start by looking at the lines and making sure they are not loose.

When and how did you purchase the shift kit? Why have you fitted it?
There should be a small resistor connected across the pressure switch contacts. This was a later addition to prevent activation of the trouble light. It would appear that on the basis of providing ongoing information, the "Smallcar" outfit have washed their hands of the kit.
