2007 PAX numbers are out!

FYI:
The 2007 PAX numbers have been issued:

GS .803 (Harry et al.)
ESP .834 (Bill only for now)
FP .868 (Ben/Dave only for now)
SM .856 (Kerry, Tom K, Tom J, Mike, et al.)

and for Chike DS .804

which means that Chike will have to have better raw times to beat all of the "stock" SVXi in GS

Also--compared to the 2006 numbers--SM takes the biggest beating, getting .011 added to its index, while GS gets .009, ESP and DS getting .006, and FP getting .005

-Bill (just waiting for Ben to chime in here )

Thanks Bill. I've been studying these numbers all week since they were first posted on SCCA Forums. Next season should be interesting but I'll still be competing with a WRX that's not fully prepped for my class.

My only mods this season were: 29mm Whiteline FSB and Toyo RA-1's mounted on heavy 22.5lb Prodrive P7 wheels that I borrowed from my co-driver Shawn (my stock wheels weigh 21lbs).

Over Xmas I'll be getting some 18lb Subaru SPT wheels, my own set of 235/45/17 Toyo RA-1's and a Prodrive axleback muffler section. Come tax time, I'm hoping to pick up some lightly used 245 V710's or A6's which I'll throw onto the car only if I compete in a National Tour/ Divisional event (e.g. DC Pro Solo).

Next winter I'll get some konis and hopefully be on the road to Topeka in '08!

-Chike

P.S. Btw, I had my best finish ever with my SCCA club last weekend. Finished 3rd in PAX, 9th in Raw time.

One member of my club re-calculated the results using next year's PAX numbers.

I have become more and more disillusioned with the PAX/RTP index as I have gained experience. I think, combined with stock classes that are not entirely relevant any more, that PAX is difficult for somebody like me (in an older car that's not competitive in its class) to take seriously.

I have a really hard time understanding why HS gets such a big help in the 2007 index when, at Nationals this year, the top HS driver would have finished fifth in Super Stock - raw time. I'm really tired of Minis showing up and taking FTDI so easily - one even took FTD at an event this year.

Yep, you've hit on why Ben and I have so much fun "discussing" PAX

Sorry Pockets, but you're incorrect. Here's the results from the 2006 Solo Nationals:

http://www.scca.com/_FileLibrary/Fil...0Nationals.pdf

Karter Bollmann won HS with a combined time of 108.855. He would have finished around 57th in Super Stock. He also wouldn't have trophied in AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, or GS.

I've been to events where Marshall Cone (2006 HS Pro Solo champ) captured FTP and finished top 10 in Raw Time, but on a decent day, I'm able to run a faster raw time in my non prepped DS WRX. Have you ever co-driven a well prepped HS car? They handle well, but they're so s-l-o-w...

I can't get your link to work (it crashes Firefox, but I understand some 'stuff' is going on inside my network), but I believe you.

...Which leads me to the question, 'what the hell numbers was I looking at???'

You were probably reading a post about the amazing times run by the winner of CS in the Pontiac Solstice (101.697). That Raw time would have won BS, AS and finished 7th in SS.

A well-prepped CS Miata/Solstice will definitely kick my car to the weeds!

And the weeds woud run and hide with that front end flying at 'em.

Look where they placed us if you don't think the SCCA classing is a joke. Is a prepared SVX comparable to a prepared 2006 GT4 Porsche or even the joke of an Elise they sell here now?

Then again, if Bill got off his butt and got himself classed he'd be totally outclassed as well.

I wish I could run against the Mulletheads.

Well, I think the rules for more prepared cars are definitely written with the more competitive vehicles in mind. Not everything that fits within those rules is going to be competitive.

Modified classes are more tricky, and if you want to run in them you really need to build a car to the rules. Trying to fit a car built for your personal preferences into the rules already in place is a recipe for an uncompetitive car. NASA tries to fix that with their rules system, but I don't have any experience with it so I don't know how well it works. My guess is that the same sort of situation applies in the end.

Concerning stock cars, again the rules are really in place for the more competitive amongst those classes. The SEB doesn't really try very hard to fit uncompetitive cars like mine into an appropriate class. That's just something I have to live with, or I can get a car that is competitive in the first place.

Now, concerning index, I have to get it out of my head that it's anywhere near a reliable measure of performance for me. I think it works for the cars the classes are designed for - the cars that are actually competitive. For those of us in cars that are not competitive in their classes, it's a frustrating stick to measure against. I am always a few seconds off FTDI when I know even the fastest of my local group can't get into my car and turn the times I do.

So I just have to be happy with my small victories, with the respect I get for doing what I do with such a slow car, and for the experience I'm gaining driving it. And I think that experience is valuable enough to put up with the frustration in the short term.
