Nice looking car, but make friends with a good mechanic

Good luck with your new ford!!! Stock up on rear brake lights! They seem to go daily on those things. Hope you got a reliable one!!!

Interesting, all the research I did (including talking to existing owners) said nothing of maintenance problems... except a propensity for eating light bulbs. That I can live with... besides, seems like it's primed for a clear-LCD modification <grin>

Besides, while owning an SVX I already became friends with several good mechanics

Volvos were the second least desired vehicle to move from a lot when I worked at manheim aa. Just behind Landrovers. Always had dead batteries and funky electrics. Still hoping you got a good one.

Well, I have to say thanks for the thoughts, Benebob. I know Volvo's aren't easy to move on a lot... in recent years it's more because they're still viewed as a "soccer-mom-mobile", a vehicle type which has been crowned in more recent years by Minivans. They're also not cheap... but they ARE well engineered cars.

The do have electrical glitches... like blowing bulbs... but from the experience of friends with Volvos (one with a 2000 S70 now approaching 150K) they tend to be mostly very reliable cars.

Only time will tell now if I made the right decision... but continuing to maintain the SVX as a daily driver just wasn't an option for me at this time.

I was only going from the advice of a friend who is the Warranty Manager for the main local garage. They deal with Volvo, Landrover, Jaguar, VW, Audi, Peugeot, Citroen, BMW, Mercedes, Smart, Seat, Porsche, Aston Martin, Mitsubishi and Suzuki. (I may have forgotten some.)

He does say that the Volvo reliability has improved now they are reskinned Fords.

Congrats on the purchase Thumper. At least your little munchkins will be safe in the Volvo!

I'd put the SVX on bocks and wait for it to go up in value, if you have the space.

I had a Volvo 740 wagon in the "old days". Reliable and built like a truck. Come to think of it, thats how it drove too. I must admit that it was rear wheel drive and the worst handling car I ever drove in the snow, even with 4 snow tires.

I did hate to part with it when the time came. Rust got it. A major problem in my part of the world.

Thanks all. Yeah, it's going to be good with the "Thumper_Kittens" and the "Thumper_SO"... but so far I'm well impressed with my purchase. Not as powerful as the SVX... but more plush and still a good riding highway cruiser. A lot quieter than my SVX at highway speeds... but half the mileage as well, so we'll see.

I know my SVX isn't happy... I'd be tempted to keep her except that I worry that she'd get lonely without my TLC every other weekend. The SVX is a great car... but she needs love and attention which are things I can't promise her any more. Good grief, I'm talking about my car like it's my mistress!!!!

Already got one of those, too; Aviation. That's an even harsher mistress than the bloody SVX!
