I did it, new exhaust done***NOW WITH PICS***

Yeah, that's right, got my exhaust done today. This time I did it with innovation. Pics will follow within the week. Took the greater part of close to 12 hours to do it and make it look completely clean. Sorry to hold you in suspense.

The SVX has SIDEPIPES!!!

Completely custom fabbed, ran true dual off the headers, left precats in place and has one hell of a growl, the way an SVX should sound in my opinion.

OMG, it looks really sweet. Had the tips blend in with the body line so they don't stick out too far. It looks clean too. No molding, no body cutting at all. The only set back is the two vacant holes in the rear fascia. Hopefully will have pics tomorrow evening.

Keith

Here are the pics. Enjoy

Under carriage shot of the set up that I used.

A shot from the side showing the area that the stock tips I used are sitting at.

Back on the ground, and looking good I might add.

Another shot from head on.

Let me know what you think.

Nice job! What do you plan on doing with the rear vacant holes where the previous exhaust pipes ran? Chris

Not a fan either...but it definitely looks like an intricate job. A+ for effort!

Keith,
definitely an "old school" approach....have you tried running the car at idle for a while (to simulate being stuck in traffic) to see if the passenger's compartment starts filling up with exhaust?

Not really a fan either, the exhaust tips just look wrong to me, maybe if you went with a different style it would have looked better. A+ for the effort though!

Why didn't you use a cross pipe to balance the exhaust impulses?

A+ for effort, but gotta agree that it's weird at first to see the SVX tips on the side all of a sudden.

An X- or H-pipe would have been a good idea also, can't remember which one's for performance and which one's for sound.

Is there a way to cut some of the body and do some bondo smoothing to raise the tips to be flush with the side of the car? That would be cleaner and give you more ground clearance, but I doubt it's possible.

Wow. That has gotta be loud. Have you thought about installing a couple of tube mufflers?

Thats what I was thinking. I think it looks kinda cool with the stock tips out the side. But godam that has to be loud.

BTW: Balance tubes are for sound on the SVX, makes no performance affect.

I was thinking the same thing. I ran my svx around the block with no mufflers or cats, and while I loved the sound, it was way too loud to drive normally. Even in SC the cops would have picked me up in a heartbeat.

I did have sidepipes on my 89 suby wagon for a few years. But I had some sort of muffler in there to quiet her down.

kinda tough to see them in this pic - right in front of the rear wheels.
