Coil pack voltage

Does anyone know what the output of the stock SVX coil pack is?
I have searched everywere and can not find it.

Seems to me there was a thread within the last year that had the info in it -- I think is was an MSD Stacker-related thread -- I believe someone actually sent a coil off to MSD to make sure the Stacker wouldn't fry it...

It looks like when MSD tested the Stock coils that they put out 38,000 V with 450V input.

Ya I read that too. I think that the SVX has a lower volts input so the voltage out would be less too. I could be totally wrong too.

Yes, the SVX ignition sends 12 V to the coil. The SVX ignition works by induction rather than by rapid voltage rise times (CD ignitions). I don't think there's any way to estimate the coil output by induction from the output by CD. I'd guess that its a pretty good coil though.

Hi Steve, been away shooting.
Hard to say what the maximum voltage would be. It is a 'Hi-energy ' system. The maximum voltage depends on the resistance at the plug gap. An open circuit voltage of about 50k volts would be the usual for this type of system.

Alough the input voltage is 12 volts, it is the induced voltage in the primary that fires the secondary. This would be about 400V.

Why do you want to know?
Harvey.

Well first what were you shooting at? Dingos, Wildebeests, or Roo’s ? I hope you had fun and hit something .

I am doing a report on the EG33 motor and can not find what the output voltage of our SVX stock coils would be. SOA was of no real help. Anything you have to add on this would be greatly appreciated

Steve

No Steve only shoot targets. I did win my grade in Service, that is a two handed shoot.
Gee I could add about 5 pages, If you search 'MSD Ignition' under 'oab_au', you will find a fair bit on it.

Harvey.
