Hood Release Help!!

My hood release latch will not open the hood, so I am assuming the cable is broken somewhere. My first priority is getting the hood open, as I need to replace the battery to get the SVX to go. How can I do that without using the release latch? Also, how do I replace the cable? I traced it back for a while, but without getting the hood open, I'm not sure how to replace it. I greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!!

Judging from how flimsy the interior release handle feels, it seems the most likely point of failure would be where the cable joins the handle. If the handle's broken, I'd think you might be able to pull the cable with pliers.

In a worst case scenario, I would try accessing the latch itself by removing the center mock light. It may break in the process as the hood must be open for proper removal. This however is better than not getting it open, or damaging your hood.

Broken Latch

My cable broke already, and I rigged it up underneith the front bumper. But one day I was oppening it, and it slipped some how, and I had the whole cable in my hand, and a locked hood. The only way I was able to get in, was taking a hacksaw to the black mesh on the grill, then a screw driver will push the latch open if you look carefully enough to figure out where to push. I used it as a good excuse to get a 97 grill. and the person who keyed my hood gave a good excuse to get the 97 grill painted....

Good luck getting into it.

Oh yea, after I got in, I rigged it up like I had, but used some tape to hold the cable in line, so it wouldn't slip out like it had before.
