Easily my least favorite thing about my car is the plastic, woodgrain-finished dash and door-insert panels. What a bonehead move for Subaru (along with the flimsy spare tire well cover, more befitting a Chevette) for a car that fetched $28,000 in '92. Fake suede I can live with, because the Ecsaine is virtually indistinguishable from genuine, in the observation of my passengers, anyway. At least, as you observed, the woodgrain dosen't really even look like wood, so it's not quite so obvious.

Sounds like you guys have grey interiors. The wood grain looks good in the beige lsi interiors.

Yeah, my interior's gray. But it's not the looks; it's that it's fake.

If too few could muster up the spare change to drop 28K on a Suby with plastic wood, I wonder how many would have dropped 30K on gen-u-wine tree hugger material?

Ron (I pretend my plastic's really genetically engineered burled walnut).

My thinking is that folks with money to spend on a mid-to-upscale, luxury sports coupe might well have been turned-off by the obvious economizing.

You're probably right. With a proper name (Alcyone) & the real McCoy stuff for trim, 35K should have been attainable. Too bad wood was only used for making the wheel bearings.

Ron.

WOW! that was a warming and motivated response.

ok, so the 94-97 base model has cloth seats and no wood grain.

ok. but wait, so there was a non awd svx? that sucks. was it atleast rear wheel drive?

how much do you think I would expect to pay for a 95 or so AWD with cloth and decent mileage?

our dyno:

yes, it is an AWD system capable of 2wd also. we set up meets all the time. we've had alot of subaru meets especially. if you would like to see some pictures of these meets just go to our website and check out the gallery section.

Nope, FWD.

No authority on price, but I'd guess a broad range depending (obviously) upon condition and service history, anywhere from four to eight grand. You can get a decent ballpark idea what they're bringing on eBay and Autotrader.

Yes there are some AWD base model 94's and 95's... My SVX is a 1995 L (Base model) however it has the "Safety Package". That package adds AWD, ABS and something else that I don't know just yet... But I ripped out that 4EAT and threw in the 2003 WRX 5 speed tranny... The car is so much more fun to drive now!!! Add the Koni/GC suspension to that and you have a corvette beater in the corners!!! My car was by far the fastest and most stable car that I had ever driven through corners and windy roads. That is compaired to a 2001 Miata SE and a 1999 Mustang cobra...

The "Leguna Blue" color came on the 94's, 95's and 96's... That was it I believe... Yes, it was a beautiful color...

Welcome to the group, Mike! I look forward to seeing what year and color you end up with as well as what improvements you end up making to it.

Visit daily and post often. Don't forget you have a personal locker here that is begging to be filled with pics of the lucky SVX you end up with.

Oh yeah...as far as models go, the 92's (first year, no surprise there) had the most tranny & wheel bearing issues. Later models had minor improvements applied. On the other hand, the 92's were also the fastest as they had no artificial limits programmed into them.
