As for the test drive aspect, I went to Reedman's in Langhorne PA. They sell about 20 or more makes. They have a huge test track that the salesman drives you to, and turns you loose on your own. You can drive around the track in peace and try out the car. You just drive up to the gate when you are done. It also takes out the "other driver" hazards of a test run on the street. I was very impressed. The place is so big they have shuttles to take you from one place to another.

Any more Ideas, folks? I have a meeting this afternoon to discuss this project. I'd like to have a few more opinions, just to show that we SVXers are more than obsessed with our SVXes . . . that we're true efficianados of the "experience."

There's a Land Rover dealer here in NJ that I've driven past a couple times that has an offroad course, very cool.

for me, i would need a good test drive. that's how i ended up with my svx. they gave me the keys and said bye. i think that if they allowed you to take it for a day or so, you'll know if you want the car or not. most of the time you will know if you want the car once it's been sitting in your driveway for 5 minutes.

i hear that some of those bmw and audi driver's training days does well to help sell more of their cars. they get lots of happy customers that 'must' have one of their cars after their training day (which costs around $200 bucks for the day i think). if they can't afford it now, they'll still have the car in mind so they'll buy it when they time is right.

how about having a place in a metropolitan area where a manufacture can 'loan' out vehicles for a day or two? go talk to a local dealer to look at a particular model, put a refundable down payment to show intent of purchasing the car, have the local dealer schedule a time where you could pickup the 'loaner' car and drive it around for a day or two. the manufacture can have a small fleet of cars to test with. it'd be like the ride and drive thing with subaru sti's that they eventually crushed that was offered to employees and salespeople of subaru.

Randy,
I keep coming back to the tactile aspect of "experiencing" a vehicle. Any computer-based system is going to fall short in this area unless you spend A LOT of $$ (force feedback and all that...). Being able to drive - or be driven - in a vehicle at the limits of its capabilities would be cool ("...and this is where this SVX 2004 reaches the limits of its tires adhesion...")

i would never buy a car without test driving it first.

i hate to have a salesman in the car with me...they just blah blah...and most of the time they don't know the particular vehicle at all...

i dont' know about you guys, but i like to tromp on a new car to see if i am going to like that...i like to pick the car apart myself without having a narrator of a sales associate up my butt...play with the buttons and see what the car can really do...find things on my own...

i hates salesmen...

i like the idea of a track to test a car on...

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.
