Question Noise coming from the exhaust???

This is the most annoying noise, it's almost like a rattling noise as if something was loose inside one of the pipes. Does anyone else knows what I'm talking about? If you do then please help me and let me know what was done to fix it and at was cost? Thank you.

One more thing, Has anyone ever installed a DVD player in their SVX? which one was used and did they fit OK?

It is probably your primary muffler (resonator) going bad. Have it cut out and replaced with a straight pipe. It will have minimal effect on exhaust volume or pitch.

It can also be from rocks, gravel sitting in your heat shields.

Rattle

Second the rocks things or these heat shields tend to get bent in snow and stuff. Try crawling under with the engine running and finding out where the noise is coming from. My resinator is bad too but I've just been too lazy to find someone to weld a pipe there. It has been getting worse lately. Even hear the noise at an idle now.

What does the resonator look like

I know that its not rocks or a heat shield. But what does the resonator look like? and what does it cost to getting it replaced witha straight pipe? Can you guys recommend a mechanic in the Connecticut area? or around connecticut. Thank you

I'm thinking of just cutting my heat shielding away.

Resinator

The resinator is kinda like a smaller version of a muffler towards the back of the mid pipe. If you can find a place that'll do it. Cost should be under $100. The pipe is cheap. Its just how much they want for doing the welding.

I wouldn't suggest cutting out heat shields. They are there for a reason. Primarily to keep the car's underbody insulated from the heat the cats generate. The lower ones keep brush and anything under the car from catching fire. What you can do is replace the washers with plastic/rubber stoppers to get some more distance between the shield and pipes.

Exclamation resonator

I had the same problem in my SVX. The noise was really bad at acceleration and would get louder the more you press the gas pedal. My SVX sounded like a pieace of junk going down the road, I was embarrssed. I went to my Suby dealer, they told me it was my resonator, gave me a quote for parts and labor. I thought the prices was kind of high. I had them right down the parts number. I then looked it up at:

subaruparts.com

The prices was so much less than the dealer. I called them back to see if they would price match, they would not do it. I ended up buying all my parts online and having the Suby dealer install it. Fixed, noise is gone, saved some money ordering online even with shipping cost.

Hope this helps.

P.S. also try: www.1stsubaruparts.com

Smile Part Numbers

Hm, I will have to look at my bill I got, if I can find it. Sorry, You might just have to go to the Suby dealer to ask them if they can write the parts numbers down for you. Just tell them you are shopping around for prices.
