Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
If keeping the stock rods you should at least go to an aftermarket fastener like ARP's

Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
Have you got a suggestion for aftermarket rods?
Why do you suggest fasteners? Do you think the rod bolts stretch? I'm tending to think whether it's oil (pressure, or heat)...the fact that my other motor did the same thing, but was running way less revs makes me think it's not rod bolt stretch. Wouldn't they stretch at higher revs? Oil temp and pressure gauges would help this I'm sure. M |

Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
Matt, the cheapest you can go with are Eagle rods and they do already come with ARP fasteners.

Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
The STi has some high speed oiling issues. I'd not be suprised the SVX suffers the same even with the shorter stroke. Here is the deal though, almost all of the STi's I know that ate a bearing were using a XXW50 racing oil.
I've been out of the loop since they started work on solutions, but I can start looking around again. Last thing, high side G loads prevent the oil from returning from one head, and have been known to eat engines. The kit car using the WRX/STi driveline in the back was eating engines from this. I need to see if they found a workable solution. |

Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
Can we also find out what oil pressure other engines are operating at while we are at it please.

Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
When a single rod fails I can only imagine the other bearings wold show signs of premature failure of the same kind if there is an oil system failure or weakness... If everything else looks good, I am going to say that the stock rods are not staying in shape at higher RPMS and allowing the bearings to spin

Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
Thanks Tom,
What's the bigger oil filter from? Also, was it a real estate issue that meant you couldn't fit it in front of the radiator? I've had a look...not much room. M |

Thanks Tom looks great. I also think changing the filter is a great idea.

Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
Credit the oil filter change to Old Tom. He clued me into it when I was at his place getting my fiberglass hood. They are not as common as they used to be. I ordered about a dozen of them from Advance Auto Parts, just to be safe. Purolator ClassicOil Filter Part No L30165

Re: 11:1 CR Race/Street Engine build
Danny:
If you're talking about the oil filter, there is no adaptor. It fits. Just much greater volume than stock oil filter. Part number is in my post. As for the oil cooler, YT will have to discuss that.
