anyone ever make an ice luge?

for the uneducated, an ice luge is a big block of ice which is either cut at an angle or suspended at an angle and has a narrow channel cut into it down which alcohol is poured into the waiting mouth of thirsty partygoers..

i have been charged with the task of supplying the ice luge for a party this weekend and i've never made on before.

the basic size of a "big block of ice" is 300lbs. i suppose i can cut it down to reduce the weight, but i've decided not to in order to maximize the length of the "luge"

the tricky part that i've run into is how to set the luge up without it falling over or breaking or melting all over the place.. there are two basic schools on setting the luge path at an angle..

1) you build a stand which holds the whole block at an angle and carve the luge path into a flat side

2) you carve the actual block of ice into some kind of angle and just set it flat on a table

option 2 seems to be the least dangerous.. to start, it'll effectively halve the weight.. if i take a rectangle of ice 1'x2'x4' and cut it down so it's 2' tall at one end and 0" tall at the other, i've cut the ice in half..

also, i don't trust myself to build a stand capable of supporting 300 pounds.. 150lbs on a table or counter would be a lot safer, imho.

has anyone ever made one of these before?

also, be sure to read the party invitation thread i'll post shortly..
