Unhappy Engine questions

Hi,
I'm new here but have a '92. I put in a new transimission 2yrs ago and now have a big problem. Lost coolant and overheated the engine - I'm waiting for the news from my mechanic but think it may be verry bad. So my questions are - suggestions for finding a good replacement engine? Ideas about how much it should cost? Where would I find one (I'm in California). Any help would be great. Driving this rental .... I really miss my SVX.
Jen

Hi

I hope your car will be okay.

There is a salvage yard in CA that has SVX parts. It's called World Auto Parts ....http://www.subaruworld.com/ Maybe they have a used engine.

I new engine is not available complete. It would have to be assembled. I had a price last summer of about $6000 to install new a newengine using new block assy and heads, valves, cams from new parts. The block assy was the most expensive at about $1500. I found a used engine with about 80K miles on it for $800.

Hatd to say it but their (subaruworld) prices seem quite high compared to some others I have checked. Only advantage to them would be if you are close and save on shipping.

There is a motor on ebay auction now.

Thanks for the info.
I'll check ebay. Do you know if there were any significant changes to the engines over the next few years or could I use one from a 93 or 94 model?
So far the least expensive has been from a place in NY for 1200 dollars. Any other places to try would be helpful.
thanks again
Jen
My mechanic thinks I should dump the car but he warmed up a bit when I said I could get a 1200 dollar engine instead of 18-2500.

Is your coolantless engine in bad shape? What happened when you ran out of coolant? How much would the shipping be from NY?

My engine is dead. I hope the 1200 includes shipping from NY. Got any ideas for good deals on engines?

What part of california are you in? Because if your anywhere near sacramento there is a great subaru parts place. an old chop shop over by sunset blvd. I'd have to rumage to find the number, but i go there often and have been very successful with their eqipment. Prices very from the cheep to an arm and a leg for some things. Another good thing to do would be to set up an account at copartfinder.com. It's an online database of chopshops, dismantelers, parts dealers, and garages around the US that helps you find just what you need, for a variety of price ranges and locations. Check it out, as well.

Jen,

Like I said, talk to Mike. I think he may be able to hook you up with an H6 3.3 w 80k for around 550. Shipping from PA is extra.

I just got my engine from All Foreign for $550 and $100 to ship to Wisconsin. They have two more engines available for the same price.

Hi,
Called All forign and they said they didn't have any engines? So what's up? I ordered a more expensive on because the rental car costs are going to kill me. When did you talk to these guys? I called yesterday.
