HANG-ON mode...
I came to the SVX from a '90 Legacy and before that, an '86 GL wagon, both 5-speeds, so imagine my surprise the first time I floored the gas in the SVX to pass someone on a two-lane highway. Let's just say I was not prepared.
I was about to add that I've never seen the POWER light illuminated in my car except when I turn the key, but it might have lit in that instance and I was too shocked to notice. Ten thousand miles later, I remain amazed by how quickly and effortlessly my car will travel from 40 to 80 MPH. dcb |

Yes dcarb, in some circumstances the car is really quick.
For the first year I had my car, the tranny was faulty, and it was stuck permanently in third gear. Pickup away from roundabouts was, shall we say, leisurely, but anything over 70 was pretty good. I remember one day on the motorway flooring it at 75, and I reckoned it took 3 or 4 seconds to reach 100, which impressed me a lot, as it could not kickdown to 2. However, I am not a fan of the really really high overdrive top, and the tranny's unwillingness to change down out of it at highway speeds. Nowadays, I either leave Power mode switched on, which makes it select lower gears quicker, or I preselect 3 range before I make my overtaking move. That way I am not putting up with what seems like turbo lag in a non-turbo car. Just means you have to be a little less lazy. Joe
