Selling AWD, buying FWD??? Consequences?
My '93 has 130k+ miles on it, and is starting to sag in a few ways. I can do another transmission plus struts, timing belt, and a few other details - or...
A friend of a friend has a '95? FWD "L" version, with low mileage and a new transmission. I'm thinking of buying that L and swapping my leather seating, etc., then selling my '93 for whatever it'll bring. I don't use the sunroof, but will regret losing the auto seatbelts. Four questions: 1. What are the most important handling differences I'll experience going from the AWD to the FWD configuration? 2. Are there any maintenance peculiarities of the FWD version? 3. Can I swap the auto seatbelt assemblies? 4. Can I swap the remote door lock capability? |

i have a fwd svx........
and i have had the same problems that all other svx owners have had with the exception of the awd binding stuff obviously. what i am trying to say is that you are buying the same car without the awd maintenance difficulties. of course you also lose the benefits of awd. i live in memphis where i would almost never need awd so it is not a big deal to me.

I would gladly give up decapitater seat belts.
Changing over the auto belts would be a major task I think. There are electrical control boxes and wiring harnesses involved. FWD is slower. The front end can't handle all the torque and keep the wheels going straight. But that is just off the line up to about 30 or 40 mph. |

When my 94L with 80k died, it cost me a grand total of about 10,000 to recover it. Tranny, rotors, pads, tires, tranny, tranny and was out for about 3 months if not longer. None of my AWD svxes had any problem.
And I can say 92/3 AWDs are faster than 94+ AWD or 94+FWD from my personal experience. Just look for a well maintained car. L

I have a 94 LE FWDand it has auto belts there was a similar discussion in another thread. i had mentioned i like mine fine. It moves along more than adequately...pretty darn good as a matter of fact, even from a standing start, just takes a little getting used to, so as you don't spin tires. FWD SVX's do not have an issue of torque steer so much if at all that I've noticed because of equal length shafts as opposed to unequal as in most FWD cars. the engine and trans. still run front to back, there's just no extra wheels being driven.
