Lightbulb *Check Engine Warning Light*

Just recently (9:00 PM EST, Friday 12/20) purchased myself a new 96 Subaru SVX LSi, and just tonight (10:15ish PM EST, Sunday 12/22) my Check Engine warning light came on. I did a bit of research online looking up searches for SVX Check Engine light, and didnt find much. Best reason for this light coming on that I could find was a glitch that occurs when you turn on and off the car several times in a short period of time, like driving to 5 different stores for Christmas shopping... Just noticed it on my way home, and i checked in the little manual and it said I should get to local Subaru dealer ASAP. I'm at quite a quandary, and I probably should take it to the dealer but would like any of you other SVX'ers' personal experience in the matter... Please help, any is appreciated.

hard to say

Since you just bought it, did you put in gas and was it Premium? Also, is your cap on nice and tight? If not, your C/E light will come on...

Re: *Check Engine Warning Light*

The check engine light usually indicates an emissions related or sensor problem, barring any noticable symptoms. Get the malfunction code read at the dealer or anywhere that has a OBDII reader to define the problem. Aslo make sure your gas cap is tight. Xmas shopping only lights the "check your available balance" light. Oh, and welcome to the asylum. B.

RCBrady,

Welcome to the SVX family.

The 'check engine' light on my 97 LSi came on last Wed. night. The car had been sitting in an open air garage all day. This SVX only has about 49,000 miles on it.

I was at my dealership Sat. morning and using an OBD II monitor they read & cleared the code as "Right oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunctioning. " That's an O2 sensor. Tomorrow afternoon (half day at work) I will try to remove, clean, & replace the O2 sensor and see if that works before buying a new O2 sensor. They are supposed to be expensive.

Good luck to you.
