Every time we get into a tire discussion, or for that matter, a cost comparison about anything - please consider this.
If you spend "on the cheap" - $400.00 for a set of XXXX, but feel that $600.00 for a set of YYYY is "too expensive", consider the fact that if you get, hypothetically, three years out of the tires, the difference in price is about 18 cents per day. Cut out the mega-sized fries & you're more than covered. Get what you consider the best tire for your particular driving situation. Ron.

I don't know, I've pretty much had to buy a new set of tires every year to year and a half. I usually drive about 20,000 miles in a year and have never had tires that lasted over 35,000 miles. Most last about 30,000 no matter what the treadlife warranty (even though I've never had tires with a warranty over 60,000)

I'm sure it has to do with driving style. When I got my SVX, I tore through a set of tires in 10 months. Now, I have 14 months (25,000mi) on the Dunlops, and still have half of my tred left.
When I first got the car, I was excited to have a somewhat powerful car, and I drove it like an idiot. Now that I have calmed down in my old age (heh) I drive a little less spiritedly. Mike |

Ron, I gave up on Megasized fries. There are never enough fries in the bag for me. I now get the "Ridiculosly Humongous Box-O-Fries". That seems to have enough for me, if Rosie dosen't mooch any.

I've gone to the "Absurdly Overboard Flatbed-O-Fries" myself, and I only go when I'm alone in the car so the mooch factor is nil. The best mileage I've ever gotten from a set of tires was the Firestone Wilderness ATs on my '93 Explorer - 65K and they weren't quite down to the wear bars. Eagle GT-IIs are good all-around tires and wear like iron.

My new tires
I ordered Yokohama Avid V4's from Sears. I brought in the price from OnlineTires.com ($67) and they matched it (plus $12 that would have paid for shipping from online). All together it'll be $395 for the tires, installation, mounting&balancing, and a road hazard warranty (Sears guy said it would have been over $500 w/o the warranty if I hadn't brought the other price...ON SALE!). Still waiting for them to come in

I have ES100's on my wife's eclipse. I'm pretty pleased with them, but they're lower profile 17's than our stock size, so I don't whether they'd provide the same ride and quiet as they do on the eclipse. I'm pleased with them though.

Tires
Bought new in '92 w/Bridgestones and got 30,000 mi to wearbars. Just ordered Bridgestone RE940's @ $129.per thru Costco. Oh, my second set of Bridgestones gave me 25000. Yes, i only have 55000+ for 10 years. Tire guys all agree that 30000 is good for this rubber, that's about it. Living in Las Vegas within a half hour I'm out of town cruising at 90 to 100+ that runsemdown fast.

I am about to try a set of the Sumitomo HTR+ tires. You can buy them at Sears or mail order them from tirerack. At tirerack, they are $88/each for 225/50WR16 size tires. The test results and user reviews on tirerack are excellent.

tyres (!)
I've been a big fan of my Dunlops over the years, but with a friend at a local gas station carrying Khumos, and giving me good prices, I may go that route next. Put Khumos on Jean's Impreza last spring (3 seasons only) and they seem like a good choice.
