Heater Fan won't work

Last week the heater fan/air conditioner fan quite working at any setting. But the really puzzling thing is when I activate the defrost mode on the climate control panel, both radiator fans turn on.

Any ideas?

Defrost kicks on the A/C, and whenever A/C is running both rad fans will also start up regardless of the coolant temperature. It's just to keep air circulating through the condenser.

But when you turn the key to "accessory" and hit the "defrost" control, the radiator fan doesn't kick in on my other 3 SVXs - just the heater/AC fan kicks in. But in the problem SVX, the heater/ac fan doesn't kick in and the two radiator fans do kick in.

I'm sure you checked the fuses.

Yup - I checked fuses 15, 20 and 21. They all looked good. I also swapped out the 5 radiator fan relays under the hood with known good ones with no difference in result.

Confused . Are you talking about the cabin fan or the one on the radiator under the hood ?

That's the confusing part, for sure. I'm talking about trying to control the heater/AC fan and having the radiator fans (both is them) kick in when the heater/AC fan is set to defrost (and now when set to auto). Still, even though the defrost and auto controls won't activate the heater/AC fan, they will activate the two radiator fans.

Just to straighten this out... Your heater and AC and Defrost is NOT blowing in the cabin.

Right. That's what I've been saying. But the "defrost" setting and the "auto" setting of the cabin heat/ac control panel activate both radiator fans (under the hood).

As they do on mine. You may have to check your blower motor.. mine died at one point... was clogged with debris ... jammed the fan and burnt the motor. you'll have to get up under the dash and check to see if the fan turns or power is getting to the motor.

In the old days 1980's our Subaru dealer took out more than one mouse nest from a Loyal heater that was stored in a barn for the summer. Rich people in the NE stored them and only used them in the winter to keep the salt off the Rolls , JAG or Mercedes or BMW etc.
