Crank Pulley Wrench--Subaru

This crank pulley wrench says it is for a 2003 Subaru Legacy, but it may very well work for the SVX. I have an SVX wrench and it looks the same. Someone that can cross reference part numbers might be able to tell.

Re: Crank Pulley Wrench--Subaru

Not likely. Every pic I've seen of the eg33's harmonic balancer has the 4 small holes recessed substantially.
An EJ22 is only recessed about a 1/4 inch.
An EJ25 has flat face.

Every Suby I've ever worked on I either use a strap wrench around the balancer or jog the flexplate over until I have a bolt head and place a prybar as a wedge.

Personally speaking, I've never seen a Subaru tech ever use this tool. At least the ones I know of either do what I do or have built a custom tool to accomodate ALL EJ/EG/EZ balancers.

Usually a 1" thick disc of steel with a hole in the middle, 4 .125" pins welded in place and a 2.5' long handle. Makes a great beating stick for those rummaging through your toolbox uninvited.

Re: Crank Pulley Wrench--Subaru

A little search shows this superceded the 49997700, but thats from a non-subaru site so not sure if it is entirely accurate.

Just measured my 2 svx pulleys and my one impreza pulley.
The svx pulleys are recessed 22mm.
The impreza pulley is recessed 14mm.

By the looks of this one it won't go deep enough on an svx pulley. Tought to tell exactly from the picture but I doubt it would work.

IF it replaced/superceded the 49997700 (the SVX tool), it should work.

Whether a dealer decides to buy special tools or not is generally up to them, but most special tools DO speed up repairs and tend to make the dealers more money. As most of them charge a standard book rate for a given job, faster work results in more profit.

Here are some pics of the SVX tool and an SVX crank pulley. The pins are slightly over 1 1/8 inches long (no metric measuring device immediatley handy)

Re: Crank Pulley Wrench--Subaru

For the price, it just might be worth picking it up. Could be easily re-sold of it didn't work or just kept around for when the stock pulley inevitably disintegrates and is replaced with an impreza pulley.
