OT: Any Probe experts?

A friend of mine wants to swap the auto in his 1st-gen Probe for a 5 speed. Is anybody familiar with doing this? Or, is anybody even familiar with somebody who is familiar with doing this?

my second car was a 1991 Probe LX. tell your friend that unless he wants to spend the money and have his body start to rust, i wouldn't waste my money. the paint tends to peel. the trannys in these car are decent. my car had 162k when i traded it in, the engine and tranny were both strong. this car doesn't hold it's value either. i think that he should just buy an SVX and turn that into a 5 speed

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a 5spd probe?

(I'm assuming they are available)

Probe=pretty good

I know that this will sound unbelievable, but it is true: I know someone who has a Probe with 300,000 miles. I will try to get a pic of it's odometer to prove it.

p.s It's a 5 speed with the original tranny and engine.
