Re: maaco paint job.

Last time I had Maaco spray a car that I prepped I got a run in the door too-- when I took it back they told me "The run is because of YOUR bodywork and/or underneath-- we won't fix it." I guess that's the disadvantage of doing your own prep- no warranty. I was sure it was their mistake because the run was clearly in the color coat, but there was no arguing with them.

Most of my problems with Maaco have involved maybe one or two glaring flaws in an otherwise-respectable paint job. When I paid $1300 (base/clear + a little bit of body work) to have my '95 Burgundy Pearl redone a few years ago the overall job was very nice except for 2-3 bad 'fisheyes' on the gas filler door. Rather than hassle with them redoing it, I lucked into another burgundy svx at the junkyard that had a nice filler door. Of the 4 cars I've had painted at Maaco, all of them, in my opinion, required re-work- two that had to have the hoods repainted because of streaks, or a spot that just didn't get any paint(!), the door drip that they wouldn't fix, and the fisheyes on my SVX that I didn't bother fixing.
