I got the cv shafts out ok but one had a snap ring on it, and the other didn't.

The snap ring was on the short shaft, the other shaft with an extra thing on it, smaller around,longer with groves in the the extra length, didn't have its snap ring.

Was the snap ring supposed to come out on each shaft, neither shaft. or what.

not in any trouble. It is typical that the shorter one holds the ring. just be sure the other car does the same
