new ac compressor

I installed a new ac compressor, i haven't charged the system yet. Should I hear it engage when i turn on the ac or does the clutch only engage under pressure? I only turned it on for a few seconds as I wasn't sure if this would cause damage to it. any insight?

Dave

The clutch should only engage when there is proper pressure in the system. It would by who of you to get it charged sooner than later and filled with the appropriate oil to the appropriate level

Re: new ac compressor

The system should be evacuated rather than just putting in refrigerant... If that was not already in the plan.
Depending of the circumstances of the failure, possible replacing the dryer-filter-strainer, what ever your term for it is.

Re: new ac compressor

Thanks guys! I thought so, just checking. Yes I plan on evacing the system in the next day or two & I addded ol before i installed it. I re did my enitre vacuum lines since I was throwing a code 34. figured replace the compressor to since mine was starting to get noisy and it was easy to get off with the manifold off. .
