Motor using oil. PCV?

My car used 2 qt in 700 miles. I have no leaks. I just did the rear main and the separator plate with I did the 5 speed. I don't smell any oil burning. My car has 114,600 miles on it and has never lost oil presser. I all ways change the oil every 3,000 to 3,500 miles and use Mobil one every time. It is possible the PCV vale is stuck and some how sucking oil out of the motor. Also car is only getting 20 MPG. I installed two new O2 less then 3,000 miles ago.

Any Idears?

Re: Motor using oil. PCV?

If that quantity of oil was being sucked through the PCV valve you'd be trailing a cloud of blue smoke, I'd think. Wouldn't speak well of your valve train condition, either, for that much oil to make it that far. I'd guess you have oil leaking only under pressure that just hasn't made a mess yet.

Re: Motor using oil. PCV?

If I were losing that much oil, and was certain after inspecting the underside of the car that it wasn't leaking under pressure, I'd pull the intake tube and inspect the Throttle Body for any evidence of it finding it's way in that way. But, like dcb states, it should be obviously burning it and smoking more than a bit if that were the case. Seems odd for it to suddenly be consuming it in that quantity.

Re: Motor using oil. PCV?

Ya theres no blue smoke that I can see. I look under the car and did not see more then a damp spot on the valve covers. The last time I removed the intake piping there was a small pudle of oil inside the pipe.

The oils got to be going some where.

Re: Motor using oil. PCV?

A bit of oil in the intake is normal. Normal for mine, anyway, and they use so little oil I've foolishly gotten away from my habit of pulling the dipsticks at least once a week.

What is it they say about computer problems? If you suddenly have issues, the first place to start troubleshooting is with the last thing you did to the machine.
